The first day dawned with heavy fog sitting in every low spot and valley. But after a short while, the piercing sun burned through, and the next 4 days to follow, were stunning. The sun was hot, the sky blue, the temp quite warm but not stifling. It has been an excellent week.
Patients have come from near and far, though the load this week was light. There has been some interference with the huge celebration of Candelaria, Patron saint of Ocosingo. There is no school, and people are completely absorbed in the festivities. The old Catholic cathedral is dressed beautifully with huge silk banners, masses of flowers, and seas of candles.
Following are some of the dear patients we have embraced and treated. And though the numbers are light, if we touched or healed just one person, isn't that good? Isn't our purpose to put ourselves out of business? The people are now coming to the clinic on a daily basis, and may not need the intensity of a defined caravan.
We treated people with old fractures, like the 84 year old lady with an old fractured wrist who was still working in her bakery making bread. She promised to bring bread on Friday. And the little girl with an old femur fracture that healed with the ends of the bone alongside each other. She fell over a cliff. And the man with the same femur fracture that did not heal and the ends of the bones now move up and down as he walks! And the people with rashes and colds and gastritis, and the lady with pelvic pain who lost the string to her intrauterine IUD! And the man with brand new, distinct symptoms of diabetes.
Pablo has put the word out to the churches, and he is friends with the Priest at the Cathedral and has encouraged all to come to the Clinic. Our "Evangelical" radio station is off the air too. Another reason some patients may not have heard.
