ASH WEDS

Random thoughts on Ash Weds., March first.  Interestingly, the Protestants do not emphasize the beginning of Lent here. Last year Jan did a presentation to the young people in her little mission church (less than 50 members) on the importance of Lent and the preparation of our hearts for the dying and rising again of Jesus, the main tenets of our faith
The Catholics, still steeped in tradition, superstition, and Indian worship of the Gods do celebrate the beginning of Lent, but with parades and massive drinking often with left over people lying in the street.
We worked in Jan's garden today.  It is small, in the courtyard, right next to where the Mission cars and trucks are parked and just behind the big blue steel gate blocking the alley.  Jan bought 2 small plants today and we dug and rearranged.

Something godly about working in the dirt, with flowers.  The clothesline hangs ove r the flowers and the little open shed with the washer, no dryer, is right there.
Flowers from the market.  10 pesos a bunch.  That is 50 cents...

I was at the clinic today taking inventory of needed meds before the group arrives.  A little girl with Down syndrome came in.  Her name is Valeria and she is known to us.
Nurse Mari brought her down the hall to me.  She had a cold and came to see the doctor.  She hugged me, kissed me and promptly sneezed on me.  Ah yes...
Mañana...
