Day of the Dead.....PS

Well, just a postscript...re:  Day of the Dead...
I lied, Jan and I did get brave and walk to the cemetery on Friday night, Day of the Dead day...   Pablo encouraged us to go and see.   In all her years here Jan had never been to see any of the "festivities" On D of D day.   The walk to the cemetery at dark was interesting, people streaming up and down the hills to get there. There were flowers every where, police, blockades, etc.  The  entrance to the cemetery was ablaze with Christmas lights and adorned with giant lit up skeleton heads.  There is a central cement walkway and the graves are immediately on the left and right, and spread out close together, haphazardly over a large hilly area. Most are like little houses with the graves within.  There were a lot of candles, but it was dark and muddy.   Families flocked there with picnics, flowers, and plenty of booze.  People would hang out all night in and around the graves, presumably of their loved ones.   Many
get drunk.
Outside the entrance were booths with food, candles, incense,  and doodads for sale.  There was a stage with live music and a guy announcing winners of a raffle.  Kind of like Memorial Day gone bad.  Glad we went....   A lot to think about....  Very interesting.
